My name is Katelyn. I am 17 years old and a senior at West Ottawa High School. My injury occurred when I was in Kindergarten when I broke my wrist, but it didn’t start to bother me until I was in the 9 th grade during cheerleading practice. I ignored my issue for about 2 years until the point where it was unbearable pain. In the 11 th grade, I started physical therapy because the doctor said I had tendonitis in both of my wrists. I only had improvement in my left wrist, and that’s when I knew that there was a serious problem with my right wrist. I went to a hand/arm specialist out of Zeeland hospital and had tests done, and the tests showed there was nothing wrong. My doctor recommended me to get microscopic surgery. On July 28, 2007 I got my surgery. With the surgery my doctor found 2 tears in different spots of my tendons, a hole in my tissue, and inflammation in my wrist. I couldn’t return back to cheerleading completely for a month. My experience at physical therapy was excellent. Melissa is very nice and makes you feel comfortable while you are there. My goal was met with my physical therapy experience. The location was very convenient for me because it was basically right down the road from me. The work in physical therapy really helped me so I could return to doing everyday things. I can now write pain free, get ready in the morning pain free, and cheerlead pain free. With physical therapy and surgery it has made me live my life not always in pain. Katelyn Z. 17, Holland, MI
